Three matches can move a club surprisingly far up or down the table. At this point in the season, though, teams have faced very different opponents.
That was clear from the fixture list before 2026/27 started. Bournemouth and Coventry had the joint-hardest opening five matches according to the Premier League’s Fixture Difficulty Rating, with both averaging 3.6 out of 5. Results, team news and real money slots can all be open on the same phone during a weekend, but the league record needs a closer look.
Three Results Do Not Tell Much on Their Own
A six-point start can come in several ways. One club may have faced three difficult opponents. Another may have played teams expected to finish lower down the table.
The opening fixture ratings showed some big differences.
| Club | Average FDR, first five matches |
| Bournemouth | 3.6 |
| Coventry | 3.6 |
| Fulham | 3.4 |
| Hull | 3.4 |
| Arsenal | 3.2 |
| Liverpool | 2.6 |
These were ratings for the scheduled first five matches, not results from five completed rounds.
Look at Who the Team Has Played
The opponent list often says more than a simple W-D-L record.
Bournemouth opened against Manchester City, Everton and Newcastle. Two of those matches were away. Brentford and Liverpool are still ahead in Matchweeks 4 and 5.
Coventry started against Arsenal, Hull and Manchester City. Brighton and Nottingham Forest come next.
So three results from one club are not necessarily comparable with three from another.
A quick check can cover:
- opponents faced;
- home and away matches;
- starting-line-up changes;
- injuries or red cards;
- chances created and conceded.
That gives the results some background without treating a short run as a settled trend.
Home and Away Can Look Very Different
Venue is worth checking separately.
Arsenal started at home against Coventry, travelled to Aston Villa and then played Chelsea at home. Their next two league games are away against Sunderland and Brighton.
The same team may play differently on the road. Possession can drop, the press can begin deeper and counter-attacks may become more common.
That can also matter when recent results are considered around betting markets. A three-match record without the venues leaves out quite a lot.
Pre-Season Is Only Extra Information
Pre-season can fill in a few gaps, but it should not be mixed with league results.
Summer matches can show which players were involved and where a coach tried something different. Results themselves carry less weight because teams are still changing line-ups and giving players minutes.
Once competitive football starts, league matches are the stronger reference point.
Short Runs Need Context in Betting Too
Three results can look convincing beside odds and match previews. They are still only three results.
A winning run may have come against easier opposition. A weaker record may follow a difficult opening schedule.
Other gaming content can be open at the same time. With chicken road 2 available in another tab, a supporter may move between match updates, team news and recent results as the football weekend develops.
Football form comes from the fixtures themselves: opponents, venues, team selection and events on the pitch.
The Score Can Miss Quite a Lot
Two 2-0 results can come from completely different matches.
One may be comfortable from early on. In another, the score can stay 1-0 until stoppage time while the leading side spends long periods defending.
A few details are worth checking:
- when the goals were scored;
- whether there was a red card;
- which side created the better chances;
- whether a late goal changed the look of the result.
That is especially useful when the sample is only three matches.
Two More Matchweeks Are Still to Come
As of 8 September, only three Premier League Matchweeks have been completed. Matchweek 4 is scheduled for 12–14 September, followed by Matchweek 5 on 18–20 September.
So there is no five-match league sample yet.
The first three games can offer clues, but the next two rounds will add information that simply does not exist yet. Until then, the opponent list and venue are worth reading alongside the table.
