Tottenham vs Wolves Premier League
Considered Premier League (PL) title contenders at one stage, Tottenham’s Champions League aspirations have faded having picked up just 11 of the last 24 points on offer (W3, D2, L3). Losing concentration late on has cost them, as the 75th minute onwards is the only 15-minute PL time period they’ve been outscored by their opponents (7-12).
It’s been Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur at home recently, with Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min scoring 16 of their 17 goals across the last six PL games here (W5, L1), during a period that saw a healthy average of 3.67 total goals per fixture. Although having hit the woodwork 20 times this PL campaign at all venues – more than they have in all but one season since 2006/07 – shows they haven’t had it all their way.
Wolves, who are ten points worse-off at this stage than last season, are still hunting a top-half finish. A 2-1 comeback victory against Brighton proved their hunger, as only Manchester United (54) have recovered more points from losing positions than Wolves (51) since their PL return.
Slow starts have hindered Wolves away though, and they’ve scored before HT in just two of their previous 12 away games (W2, D5, L5), whilst only doomed Sheffield United have scored less PL away goals on average than Wolves’ 0.88 per road trip. However discount Wolves at your peril, as they’ve won two straight trips to Tottenham, contributing to the home side on the day failing to win any H2H for more than a decade!
Players to score: Gareth Bale has scored all nine of his PL goals this season across five home games (W5), including a hat-trick last time out here. Meanwhile, all seven of Adama Traoré’s PL goals for Wolves have been scored in the second half.
Hot stat: Wolves are the only team yet to lose when scoring the opener this PL campaign (W8, D2).
Prediction: Tottenham [3] vs [1] Wolves
