Leicester vs West Brom Premier League
Jubilant after securing a first FA Cup final appearance since 1969, Leicester City occupy third place after 31 games for the second consecutive season, standing one point better off than at the same milestone in 2019/20. Having lost just one league fixture this term against sides currently sitting 12th or lower (W10, D3, L1), they appear to be very safe pre-match favourites.
That said, the ‘Foxes’ have been erratic at home lately, alternating between winning and losing across their last six Premier League (PL) home matches (W3, L3). They will be particularly hopeful of leading at the break, having won (to-nil) in all five league games here this term to see them possess a HT lead.
West Bromwich Albion are aiming for a first run of 3+ handicap-beating victories in the English top flight since Aug/Sep 1982, but they enter this clash nine points behind the PL’s 17th-placed side with seven fixtures remaining. Yet all is not lost, with their manager – the known relegation escapologist Sam Allardyce – boasting a solid personal record against Leicester (W6, D4, L2).
Allardyce’s men have a clear ‘modus operandi’ of late, scoring twice between the 30th minute and HT in each of their last two league games. Also impressive is the fact that the ‘Baggies’ – in league action alone – have only conceded once on the road this term after the 75th minute. Significantly, that is a joint league-best.
Players to score: Nobody has scored more goals in this PL H2H than Leicester’s Jamie Vardy (six), with the current ‘PL Golden Boot’ holder bagging a brace in September’s reverse fixture. As for West Brom’s own star striker, Callum Robinson has scored three goals in their last two fixtures, each of them coming after the 60th minute.
Hot stat: Leicester have netted an average of 1.67 goals per game after the 70th minute across the last three PL H2Hs.
Prediction: Leicester vs West Brom
