Arsenal vs Fulham Premier League
The threat of no European football for the first time since 1995/96 looms ever closer for mid-table Arsenal, who have now completed 11 Premier League (PL) matches without back-to-back victories (W4, D3, L4). There are probably other teams they’d rather face than struggling Fulham as the visitors desperately seek points, although the ‘Gunners’ are enjoying a run of three straight H2H wins by a 3+ goal margin.
Arsenal should welcome a visit from lower-ranked opposition after tasting victory in two of their three PL home games when starting as a favourites (D1) in 2021, with both wins beating a -1 handicap. Against all opposition though, Arsenal have secured just one HT lead from their last seven PL home fixtures (W3, D2, L2).
After losing four straight top-flight games, defeat here would condemn Fulham to their longest PL losing streak since being relegated in 2018/19. Similarly, they led at HT just once across their last 11 PL outings, with nine of those witnessing a drawn first half, and they need to show more zeal in the final rounds if they’re to climb out of the drop zone.
To illustrate the unpredictability of the battling Londoners, Fulham’s three PL victories as a travelling outsider have all been at clubs placed above Arsenal at the beginning of the round (D1, L2), whilst just two of their 15 PL away trips have resulted in defeat by a 2+ goal margin.
Players to score: Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette scored the opener in the reverse fixture – one of five PL match openers he’s netted this season. Of the ten PL away trips in which Fulham have earned points, Ademola Lookman is their only player to have opened the scoring twice.
Hot stat: Referee Craig Pawson has awarded at least five total cards in all but one of his last six PL matches.
Prediction: Arsenal vs Fulham
